Drew Brees: Saints will kneel before anthem, stand during it

Saints quarterback announced team's plans on 推特 on Friday morning

London – New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees announced via 推特 that he and his teammates will kneel in unison prior to the playing of the national anthem Sunday at Wembley Stadium, and then will stand during the 玩ing of the anthem.

Brees and his teammates discussed how best to signify their unity regarding player protests, and to show respect for the national anthem and American flag. Their resolution was reached and announced Friday after about 10 Saints players sat during the national anthem of their last game, against Carolina last Sunday, and four of their teammates showed support by standing and placing a hand on the shoulder of several seated 玩ers.

The Saints (1-2) will 玩 Miami (1-1) at 8:30 a.m. CST.

This week, New Orleans' players also stated that they wanted to get back to the original message behind the protests, which were initiated last season by former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick, who currently is out of the league, began taking a knee during the 玩ing of the national anthem as a means to protest police brutality and inequalities faced by minorities.

Many Saints, and other NFL players, said the original meaning had become overshadowed after President Donald Trump, a week ago, used profanity to describe 玩ers and suggested that NFL owners should "fire" any of them who refused to stand for the national anthem.
